A Spooktacular Day planned on Halloween

A Spooktacular Day will take place on Saturday, October 31, in downtown Vinton. Beginning at 10:00 AM there will be Halloween games followed at 10:45 AM with a Costume parade through downtown. Trick or Treating in Vinton will begin at 5:00 p.m. and run until 7:00 p.m. for residents who would like to participate.There will be an Open Skate Costume Party and Ghostly Glow Mini Golf event at the Skate Center from 7:00-9:00 PM.

Thursday, Drive Thru Lunch at Trinity Lutheran Church

Drive-Thru Lunch at Trinity Lutheran Church (1002 E. 13th Street)Thursday, October 29, menu: Meatball sandwich, potato cake, cookies, drink 11:00-1:00p.m. Or while supplies last. Enter from 13th street and drive up to the kitchen door on the south side of the church. Someone will be there to serve you!This will be our last to go meal. Thank you to all who stopped by for a meal.

Veteran's Assembly to be held on a smaller scale

The VSCSD will hold a much smaller Veteran's Day event this year. The school will be hosting a breakfast for all Veterans and their spouses, as well as Auxiliary members. The breakfast will start at 8:30 am and will be at the HIGH SCHOOL this year. Masks will be required. We will have a small presentation during the breakfast (around 9:15) until approximately 10:30 am.

The Union Carolers WILL perform this coming holiday season

A Holiday staple in the Cedar Valley for the last 18 years is determined to not let the pandemic dampen their ability to spread holiday cheer. The Union High School Vocal Department is currently taking bookings for the Union Carolers for any holiday event in the Northeast/Eastern Iowa area.  The Union Carolers is a 16-voiced a capella ensemble that will provide up to 20 minutes of holiday music for any festive event.

Walk-through open house to celebrate Helen Purdy’s 90th Birthday

Join us in celebrating Helen Putdy’s 90th birthday with a walk-through open house on Sunday, November 1, 2020, from 2 to 4:00 PM at the Brandon Community Center.Helen is a long time resident of Brandon Iowa and early in her marriage to Harold a couple resided in Vinton Iowa.Helen is active in the Brandon Methodist Church in numerous card clubs throughout the area.

Card Shower for Sylvia Schoonover

There will be a card shower for Sylvia Schoonover who will be turning 97 years young on November 1, 2020. Cards may be sent to 712 E. 9th St., Vinton IA 52349.

Shellsburg American Legion Fish Fry Friday, October 23

The Shellsburg American Legion located at 114 Main St. SW. will hold a fish fry, this Friday, October 23 from 5-8:00 pm. This will be curbside pick up only cash or check excepted.The meal will consist of fish baked beans coleslaw and cupcake. Adults $10, children ages 5-12 $6.00, ages 4 and under FREE.

On Saturday, October 24, 2020, beginning at 2:30 p.m., the Benton County Republicans will be meeting at the Van Horne Community Center. All aboard! VGH and VGH Foundation to hold drive through Health Fair

Virginia Gay Hospital, the Virginia Gay Hospital Foundation, and an extensive list of health, safety, and wellness partners will be offering the fair as a drive-thru event bringing it to each of the four communities with a Virginia Gay Family Medical Clinic: Atkins, Urbana, Van Horne, and Vinton.  Free grab bags filled with resources, tips, information, and freebies will be offered one per family while supplies last during the week of October 12-15.
